Slack

Decimal answers support questions in Slack. Team members DM the bot or mention @Decimal in a channel, and it replies in a thread using your connected knowledge base and code. How it answers is configured on the Slack agent page.

Connecting Slack

Open Settings → Integrations → Slack and click Connect Slack.
Review the permissions below and authorize the app for your workspace.

Once connected, invite the bot to the channels where you want it to answer, or pick them in the Decimal dashboard and it joins on its own.

Permissions

The Decimal app asks for the Slack scopes below. They’re grouped by what Decimal does with them.

Reading and Answering Questions

Scope	Why Decimal needs it
`app_mentions:read`	Notice when someone mentions `@Decimal`. This is what triggers an answer.
`channels:history`, `groups:history`, `im:history`, `mpim:history`	Read the thread it’s replying in, so answers reflect the full conversation. Covers public channels, private channels, DMs, and group DMs the bot has been added to.
`chat:write`	Post answers, stream long ones as they’re generated, and edit or remove its own messages.
`assistant:write`	Power Slack’s AI assistant surface: a status indicator while it’s working, thread titles by topic, and suggested starter questions.
`files:read`	Read a file attached to a question, like a log or config, so the answer can account for it.
`files:write`	Attach files to its replies, like conversation transcripts, CSV reports, and log analysis too long for a message.
`reactions:write`	React to a message to show the bot has seen it and is working on it.
`reactions:read`	Collect 👍 and 👎 on answers as feedback, and let a configured emoji trigger actions like creating a ticket.
`emoji:read`	Let you pick a custom workspace emoji for the acknowledgment reaction and triggers, and render custom emoji correctly in transcripts.

Channels and People

Scope	Why Decimal needs it
`channels:read`, `groups:read`, `im:read`, `mpim:read`	Show conversation names in the Decimal dashboard, and validate the channels you select during setup.
`channels:join`	Join the support channels you pick in the dashboard, so you don’t have to invite the bot to each one.
`chat:write.public`	Post escalation alerts, ticket status updates, and knowledge gap reports to a channel you choose, without being invited to it first.
`users:read`	Show who said what in transcripts, and tell people from bots so Decimal never replies to another bot.
`users:read.email`	Match the person asking to their customer account, and set them as the requester on tickets created in Zendesk, Intercom, or Jira.

Escalations and Notifications

Scope	Why Decimal needs it
`channels:manage`, `groups:write`	Create a dedicated public or private channel for an escalated issue, with the ticket summary and SLA as the topic.
`im:write`	DM the person who asked when their escalated ticket changes status or a human replies.
`chat:write.customize`	Relay a customer’s question into an internal triage channel under the customer’s name and avatar, and let you rename the bot to match your support persona.
`links:read`, `links:write`	Turn links to Decimal tickets, articles, and transcripts into previews showing status, assignee, and summary.

Slack Connect

Scope	Why Decimal needs it
`conversations.connect:read`, `conversations.connect:write`, `conversations.connect:manage`	Send, accept, approve, and revoke Slack Connect invitations for shared customer channels from the Decimal dashboard.
