# Rate limits

> How many requests you can send, and what to do when you hit the limit.

| Applies to | Limit |
| - | - |
| Each API token | 120 requests per minute |
| Your organization, across all tokens | 600 requests per minute |

Some endpoints also have a lower per-organization limit of their own. The stricter limit applies.

Every response reports where you stand:

| Header | Meaning |
| - | - |
| `X-RateLimit-Limit` | Requests allowed per minute |
| `X-RateLimit-Remaining` | Requests left in the current window |
| `X-RateLimit-Reset` | Unix timestamp when the window resets |

When more than one limit applies, the headers describe the one with the fewest requests left.

## Handling 429 responses

The API returns `429` with code `rate_limited` and a `Retry-After` header: the seconds until you can send again. Wait that long, then retry.
